EP45: Building an Online Fitness Company w/ Rob Dionne

in #podcast6 years ago

Welcome back! My guest today is Rob Dionne, founder of OpenSkyFitness.com. I met Rob at the Podcast Movement 2016 conference while grabbing a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants. We struck up a quick discussion on podcasting and were both VERY passionate about our respective shows. Entrepreneurs tend to have more passion and energy than most people I met, but something stuck out about Rob. I decided to invite him on to tell his story about building OpenSkyFitness.com.

Sure, Rob isn’t the first guy to offer fitness and diet programs on the internet...far from it. Fitness is one of the areas that people tend to by with big hopes, but are then much less likely to follow through with it (I’m one of those people). Rob’s idea is that he’ll target a VERY NICHE type of person instead of trying to sell to anyone who wants to “get fit” or “lose weight”. His ideal client or “avatar” (not the movie) is someone who was an athlete in highschool and/or college who is now in their 30’s - 40’s and have gained that extra ~30lbs of cushion.

Rob knows this crowd because he was one of them. The reason Rob started OpenSkyFitness.com was because he saw a picture of he and his wife, on their honeymoon in Hawaii, and he looked FAT! Rob had never been fat before, he was an athlete kid all the way through college. The hustle-n-bustle of life had weighed on him and fitness had turned into an after-thought for several years.
Once he was able to get back into great shape and regain that atheletic build, he decided to create a business around the idea. Remember, entrepreneurs solve problems and often it’s their own to start out. Now that Rob was successful in his own re-image, he wanted to help his peers accomplish the same.

Since he’s creating OpenSkyFitness.com for a SPECIFIC person, the formerly competitive athelete, he could niche down and really speak their language. This build a connection and relationship that fostered a good environment to build on. Not only does Rob offer coaching sessions, meal plans and workout routines...but also a podcast to help build a sense of community around his cause.

You don’t want to miss the part where Rob gives advice to anyone creating an online, digital business. Remember, we can learn from other’s failures so that we don’t make so many. When you fail, learn from it! Then share it with others. It’s how we network and help each other become successful.

Thanks again for tuning in and until next time…

KEEP BUILDING FREEDOM!

Invite Rob Dionne to join the steemit and we can have a great connection here. Steemit really wants these entrepreneurs to move forward.

Taking it way back this time.

On the topic of fitness, have you heard of this @actifit app on steem that's developing a personal fitness SMT? Pretty cool idea, getting paid for activity.
