HOMESTEAD PODCAST: Why I'm Not Putting Robots In my Garden!

in #podcast7 years ago

Garden Robots By Franklin Robotics

A new company has decided they want to make gardening easier for you. Franklin Robotics is developing gardening robots to help you control weeds, seek and repel pests and report back to you the results from the front line. In fact, it appears that pretty soon you won't EVER have to step foot into your garden ever again! The army of robots will march in and do it for you! WONDERFUL!

NOT!!

Folks, the reason I garden is because I like the hard work. It's therapeutic to experience the pulling of weeds so that my produce can grow to maturity. My due diligence and hard work is rewarded at the season's end when I enjoy the fruits of my labor literally! I honestly don't think this developer has ever worked a garden before in their life. If they had, they would know the joy that comes from the hard work you put into it.

You can keep your garden robots. I'll continue to work my garden the old fashioned way.

Are we slowly making ourselves obsolete? As robot start to take over, there will be no-one to make money and then no-one can go out and spend and then no-one to buy the robots. So I don't think robots will make us obsolete.

Then they will all band together and take over the world. They'll never get my garden though!

Very funny lol...

As much as getting help to control the weeds is tempting, I'll still say no.

I'm just not sure that these robots will be good enough at figuring out which are weeds and those that are not. Nightmare potential right there!

No robots for me either!

Agreed a garden is something to be proud of, because you know that part of the reason it looks so good, is that you took the time to tender each plant and make it your own. Plus if you want to manage pest control in your garden, you're much better of getting a cat, they're domesticated and they do a good job, although sometimes they do tend to leave the odd mouse or plucked bird on your lawn. ;).

Our cats hunt in the garden. But sure they are willing to taken the local armadillos but they do keep the mice and moles at bay. :)

I used to have two cats and they were good hunters, bringing all kinds of things home, mainly birds and frogs as we had a pond in are garden too! I think they would have had a tough time with armadillos for sure ;)

Robots in the garden. Very interesting. We have a container garden, and enjoy the little bit of food we get from it. I think robots tending those plants would diminish the pleasure we get from growing some of our own food.

Exactly right!? That's part of the fun of gardening. Some people think we garden just cause we want fresh greens and that we would appreciate the robots doing all the work for us. what is the world coming to? LOL

Love your podcasts! Cant wait to listen to this one! Have a blessed day friends🌻

THANKS! We had a good time making this one.

If you are looking at growing popcorn make sure you don't do what I did, which was I put it next to my sweet corn and it cross pollinated and I ended up with cobs with both which is not good as you can't tell which is which!

LOL...lesson learned.
