Careering

in #poem7 years ago

Early in the morning before the dawn grey light,
Still in the warmth and haven of soporific night,
I could be fooled to thinking the day will turn out right,
But snug in bed will soon become,
My modern daily plight.

The morning news is spewing, banal and cheery crap,
Or Should I just tune into that loud annoying chap,
Maybe today I'll just sit still and read the morning pap.
But minutes pass like seconds like the cold and dripping tap

No time to think and contemplate the reason for it all,
Grab the keys and coat and toast and shoes and phone and all,
Sitting in the traffic jam the rain about to fall,
Got to get to work on time so I can make that call.

Filing, mailing, talking, meeting, licking arse and stamps,
Typing, rating, motivating, lunch ignoring tramps,
Watching clocks and clocking out
into the dull street lamps.
The way back home we stop and start on unforgiving ramps.

Buy the food and join the queue ignoring those beside,
Who do the same as you and try to feel relaxed inside,
Waiting just to pay and go, to get back home and hide,
From the artificial light and the restless world outside.

Screen comes on and emblazons up my dull grey weary cells,
With images of perfect tack the music really sells,
Terror, oil, bombs and threat or so the reader tells.
The truth behind the box of sound is what u find in shells.
