Man sings after war
Poet Dusan Vasiljev has made masterpiece, ode to the life and joy despite all the sorrow that we encounter in our life.
Man Sings After War
I have trampled in blood to my knees,
and I have no more dreams.
They have sold my sister
and they have cut my my mother hair down.
I am in this blurred sea of blasphemy and mud
and I am not looking for prey;
oh, I'm eager for the air! And milk!
And for white morning rose!
I have laughed in blood to my knees,
and I did not ask: why?
I have called my brother by the name of my enemy.
And I clicked when they have run in the dark ahead,
and then goes to the hell God, and man, and trench.
And now I am peacefully watching how leprosy grocer hugging my wife
and how they are destroying the roof over my head,
and I do not have the will - I do not have the strength - to revenge myself.
By yesterday, I have bowed my head submissively
and I was furious with embarrassment.
Until yesterday, I did not know my destiny right
but I know it today!
Oh, that's me, man! Man!
I'm not sorry I have trampled in blood to my knees
and that i have survived the years of slaughter ,
for this sacred Knowledge
which brought me ruin.
I'm not looking for prey:
Oh, give me just fist of air
and a little white, morning rose
For the rest,its your shame!
Probably the most renowned interpretation of this poem was by Yugoslavian and Albanian famous actor Bekim Fehmiu.
His life was kind of the battle with the ghost of war, that have always bring him a sorrow.
He had a enormous respect for his Serbian colleagues actors and his wife was also Serbian actress. On the other hand he could not be reconciled with uprising nationalism in Serbia and generally in region. This emotional stirring had eventually lead him to retreat from theater and to spend rest of his life rebelliously.
