His Heart Sat The Key

Inside his heart sat the key to it, shiny, unknown to touch, locked.
Breaking in, with unholy means, she took it from him;
did the unexpected, squeezed it in, turned it,
forward, like an old clock, winding down the way it should—
and love should make the clock go back—
locked it, threw the key insid3 her own heart, locked.
He walks around now, locked heart and all, seeking a way to break into hers,
so he could get back his own.
He knows she wants to make him as dark as she is,
but, he swears, he swears now,
locked heart and all, he swears.
