It Couldn't Be Done

A New Beginning.

After giving it far too much thought, I have decided to try to pursue a career in voice over/voice acting. There, I said it - it's out there now.

I recently turned 30 and I've always been looking for that job, something I feel passionate about, but also it had to be something that I felt that I could achieve some degree of success at. Having spent the last few weeks learning as much as I could about different routes in to working and what's expected of a voiceover talent, I'm reasonably confident that I'll be able to make something of it.

I don't know how this is going to turn out - this is also why I have not dropped my secure(ish) employment in order to chase this particular avenue. I've learned from my past mistakes in that respect.

It Couldn't Be Done

Reading poetry isn't really something I do a great deal of but I thought this post really could do with some media! I spent some time finding something that I felt resonated with this choice and I found this poem by Edgar Guest.

I feel like I'm simultaneously both the person sneering & the person who is getting on with the 'undoable'

Somebody said that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn't," but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you’ll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it;"
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat
And the first thing we knew he'd begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure,
There are thousands to point out to you one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start in to sing as you tackle the thing
That "cannot be done," and you'll do it.
