You Never Know Your Last Day
I almost died last night
My Heart almost gave out
There were no flashes no guiding lights
No prayers said out loud or under quiet breath
I just laid there hooked to the machines
the buzzer above my head reading all wrong
A pleasant sound almost like song
The nurses walking in and out
as my headphones died in my ears
In and out of consciousness
while the doctors are doing
their best to be conscientious
they came up with Bradycardia
I went to sleep with blood pressure
219 over 190 with a heart rate of 108
woke up 72 over 58 with an HR of 40
Never knowing when the end is near
Never knowing when to say goodbye
when to have that last playful laugh
that final kiss, that loving hug
All I know is I was right with God when I went
Was in God's hands all night
and came home by the grace of God
