My First Poem - Tribute to Dear Mama
How do I begin to tell this story?
How do I sustain the words as tears keep flowing?
How do I reconcile the fact that big mama is no more?
Mummy, how do I really begin to tell your story?
You taught me So many things.
Drew my ears so many times.
For me, you gave up so many things.
But never that cuddle, even at bed times.
You were so vibrant and full of life.
So beautiful on the outside, even more on the inside.
Your laughter was so contagious, your movement so gracious.
No wonder some couldn't just stand seeing you otherwise.
Oh you had your flaws like we all do.
But you stood by principles that made you a woman of substance.
Oh those moments of fear and depression.
But through all, you stood tall, trusting in the Almighty.
The last princess of Chica sleeps but her memories live on.
Memories of limelight and candlesticks.
Memories of her up North, South, East, West and beyond.
In all, memories of a content and peaceable woman.
I'lI miss you mummy but it is best you're with the Lord.
And to imagine that at death l saw a smiling face...
I know you are looking down at me from Heaven and praying.
Someday, we shall meet to part no more by God 's grace - Selah!
A tribute to my mother (1947-2017)
