The World That Once Was - Poem

in #poetry7 years ago (edited)

Delusional night-sky,
and the scattered star-lights,
above the ashen fields,
that stretch up to the horizon.

Lost in the forgotten wars,
lost in history,
lost in violence and greed,
lost in this maze we call life.

Away from the strangling lights
and the city's asphyxiation,
at a forgotten crossroads,
in the middle of nowhere.

Adrift in time and space,
turned away from the crumbling universe,
as death devouring approaches,
I sit there with no worry in the world.

Soon the stars burn out,
and the moon turns to dust,
the city lights and the debauchery within disappears,
and only me and the ashen fields are left alone.

A malevolent laugh,
and the signal of destruction,
turns everything in view
into scattered fractions.

Fractions of a civilization that once was,
the people that once were,
the universe that once was,
the world that once was.

Very lovely poem @infinitor
It's nice.

I love your poem. I will follow you because you have a lot of talent.

This is a wonderful poem, though I prefer these darker themed ones personally so maybe I am biased, lol.
