Talk to Your Doctor

in #poetry7 years ago

There was a family drowning
in summer light, laughing. Their dog
ran circles around himself
against the backdrop of their smiles.

Side effects may include:
Upset stomach, nausea
constipation, migraine, lethargy,
fever, and dry mouth

There was a driver one mile from
forever. Eternity opened up and kissed him
on the lips. The red and orange leaves cascaded
around his windshield. He looked like everything
all at once.

Side effects may include:
Nightmares, anxiety, shaking,
tremors, feelings of inadequacy,
a body full of hopeless,
and sensitivity to everything.

There was a woman on a mountain, bathing
in snow. She spun under each flake
arms stretched out like the horizon.

Side effects may include:
forgetting the names of those you loved
forgetting where you placed their tombstones
forgetting when you felt human
forgetting how to say your own name.

I am buried underneath
the blankets, fever dripping
from my forehead — the light
from the television
keeping me awake.

I like this, Matt - a veritable coney island of the mind :) Fever will do that to you. BTW, you describe yourself in your blog bio as a published poetry? Just sayin', lol.

Really cool, I love the interposition of the side effects in the various stages.

Congratulations. This post is featured in this week's Muxxybot Poetry Curation post.

Oh my goodness!! This is probably my new favorite piece of art on steemit. Your style is unlike anything I have ever experienced. @johnjgedes said it right when he said "a veritable coney island of the mind" I feel like I was just dipped in super man and eaten by life. Good stuff man, thanks!

Writing, of course, is writing, acting comes from the theater, and cinematography comes from photography. Editing is unique to film. You can see something from different points of view almost simultaneously, and it creates a new experience.

Enjoy the moment :).

What can a pencil do for all of us? Amazing things. It can write transcendent poetry, uplifting music, or life-changing equations; it can sketch the future, give life to untold beauty, and communicate the full-force of our love and aspirations.

Live life to the fullest, and focus on the positive.
