He sits in the bar
eating peanuts
and drinking beer.
It’s not much
of a life
he says.
But it’s better
than dying.
You’re not dying?
I think of asking him.
Instead I watch him
from the corner
of one eye
crunching
on peanuts
and drinking beer
while the rest
of us
are dying.
