Oh Glory! - Original
Standing on the pedestal of immortality,
basking in the admiration of history,
the universal dream of the forgotten masses.
Oh glory! Why do you hide from the victims?
Why do you avoid the ridiculed?
Why do you add power to those who
systematically silence those with a dream?
Devoid of glory, they seek it through war,
marching under the banners of their prosecutors,
through killing their brothers and fathers
in the name of the country that threw them down.
Oh Glory! The glory of man is earned through evil deeds
and violent acts, and lasts only as long as the victor decides.
Oh glory! Such a wonderful goal:
your golden face put on display in the halls of kings,
all blemishes hidden and forgotten
in the archives of men.
Worldly glory is handed out to the survivors,
those who participated in the terror
and who bring blood and screams back to civilization.
Oh Glory! How constrained our imagination is!
We believe that death unlocks glory,
when saving a soul for eternity is far more admirable.
We praise those with the loudest war drum
when the judge of the universe longs for peace.
Who are we, such fragile beings,
to decide who lives immortal through history?
No one who is praised on earth for their bloody deeds
will last long at the foot of the throne,
covered in blood and shame.
Oh Glory! How could we have gotten it so wrong?
