A Storm

in #poetry6 years ago (edited)

My mind in my books, as I feel a darkness settle. I pause into the world, and as if in reply, a gust forces a dance of leaves. I ponder, maybe a moment, as to putting flame to a candle, to enable my study. A majestic roar, forceful and mighty, sends unknown objects to the ground the floor below.

Down the stairs in a flash, close the shutters, bolt the doors. My battle with nature, intensified by a sudden downpour.
Horror strikes my heart, as I recall my neglect. The study window open, vulnerable, exposed. I rush to my carelessness, to find my knowledge in tears. The pages drenched in sadness, can no longer be revived. But many still weak to nature, as I force the shutters mute.

The void calls, I open the balcony door, peer into the beast. I retreat to safety, only to be called again. Firm, insistent, urgent. I step into the void, struck by hail and rain. I am empowered by this demon, by it's force, it's stature. Hail lashes at me, I turn my strength to face it. Lashes at my back, as I'm reminded of my mortality.
But alive I am, empowered I am, strong I am. I relax into a haven, a strength inside, that was not there the day before.

tl;dr: Some electronics are wet. Went out to the balcony in my underwear. Was glorious.

Three years ago there was a storm in my small city of Kfar Sava, Israel that inspired this poem.
It's romanticized, but it basically happened as written.

Sort:

It's amazingly written but I think the tl;dr addition on Facebook made it so much more spectacular.

Ooh, I need to hunt down that addition on Facebook! ;)
Good to see your names again, @techslut and @poet!
I've been thinking of you and wondering how your writing is coming along.
Esp. Mistress Morgan!

I miss Morgan. I miss writing. I should start setting aside some time for her every week and writing. Work has eaten me alive.

Awww!!! I have no idea what your work entails, but if you can write ten minutes a day, longhand, in a spiral notebook, that's how John Grisham got his start. yeah, that Grisham. The best selling novelist. Please do it!!!

My work: CMO and partner in a startup (Utopian). Startups are for young energetic people. Not tired old women like me!!! I should be snuggling with my cat and writing porn.

Thank you, that's very kind :)
