ACCOLADES: Day 4, Poetry Challenge Hosted By @rebeccafl
ACCOLADES
Take a drive down our streets at sundown.
And see the beauty bare and littered.
Hoots and cat calls and state the price.
Voila! she'd be in your bed, twice as nice..
Loud noise to those Hausa men,
who deftly balance the weight of a building on their heads,
To 'em carwash boys and labourers.
It can only get better, we hear the say.
Come see us at our odd jobs,
Working like mammoths, eating like ants.
Have we a choice?
We must survive.
Take a stroll down our streets,
Better still, spend a minute at Oshodi...
And see men scream and chase and fall for a hundred naira.
There's no love out here on these streets.
We struggle to feed.
Shoutout to awon Oshozondi.
"Ji! Ma sún!!" is the anthem.
Sleepless nights staring at the screen,
Up all day, fingers working tirelessly.
The hustle must pay, we must pull up in a Benz.
Swollen eyes, dark circles,
Up all night with our faces down flipping pages,
Cram and pour, man must pass.
Sort yourselves, cash or kind.
All for the degree.
Maximum respect to the legit fellows.
Those killing it from 9-5,
Suit up to the neck with a tie.
Hobbled behind paper filled desks,
waiting to cash the next paycheck.
For the green,
We ready to do anything.
Just state the right price,
and you'd have that goddess peform coprophilia..
You never gave to us,
You only took from away our little.
We never had it,
So we went out and got it.
And you say we're lazy?
You call that lazy?
We're jobless, yes!
Not useless.
We're unemployed, not prodigal!
We're paying our dues.
We deserve an apology,
Nay, I daresay,
We deserve some accolades.
Give us some goddamn accolades!
