Field Dreamer

Good morning ray of sunshine

Cutting through my window pane

Everyday is another to frame

Different no matter what

But always staying the same.

Feeling as a poor blessed little boy,

I stay watching the wind sweep the field;

swirl up and climb back down;

missed the point, back to the ground.

Now with new weeds staining my feet

Getting though tomorrow like yesterday doesn't seem as easy

as I jump boulders tossed my way;

spirit in the clouds, head in the day.

Up I stand, and walk away;

leaving an imprint in the grass,

knowing it won’t stay in the sleeping field

being caught in an awakening thought as the cold February wind chill

of negative below catches the unkempt wide brim blades of grass.

Across the way charcoal coloured boards of a two story abandoned house creak and fall to the ground.

The roof sags in the center, and moans as it struggles against its own collapse.

The walls are see-though in places, but walls still standing, supporting, fighting through yet another winter alone.

No family inside to call this house a home.

No fire crackling keeping newly found lovers’ toes warm.

No coffee spilling on the white dress before going to see a movie.

Only memories and stories,

falling one nail at a time to forever be lost and forgot.

But like all things in nature,

everything one day must come to not.

It is not a waste,

but a cycle of simple ways that life keeps living.
