SLAVE
Like a lighthouse
She stood, conspicuous.
Like a beacon
She beckoned, audacious!
Young maiden,
Tired of sucking mama's breasts,
Wanting the freedom of the free.
So she cast aside her virtue
And took to flight.
Mama was calling,
No sound could be heard.
And like birds to their birdhouse,
The men came - they came!
And stole away the virtues of the free
For a fee - they came!
And one to the other they called.
I was appalled
As I watched from Mama's hut,
Wanting to taste this freedom.
It was not to be,
And good for me.
For as soon as the air was clear,
And the men stirred,
As often as the doors opened
And the virtues stolen,
She gathered her coins
And sailed away to Rome.
