A letter from death
Dear mortal man,
Pay attention these are not mere words but the truth is what I have written. You fear your boss, you fear the rain, you fear animals placed in your care but you fear not your MAKER. I have watched you all my life you are the reason for my existence for that I am glad, but the turn of things now makes me sad dear mortal man. In the past I chased you around as you tried to evade me, but the master’s bidding I was doing mortal man do you not see, have you not learnt, has time only blinded you with all it has shown you. I am no foe but a cleanup man, dear mortal man. The MAKER made you that you may control the earth, he gave you power to bend it to your will, but you have since left your duty post and taken my chores from me oh mortal man. I used to be welcomed. Oh! how I miss the old days when the old would sit and wait for me for then I was a friend, and how I enjoyed making them wait and when it seemed like all was lost, I would sneak into their bed in the dead of night and give them the peace that they deserve. Oh! How times have changed my mortal man, from me hunting you but not hurting you for fear of the MAKER’s fury, to you now seeking me in my cold chambers coming willingly as one should never do. My job is a messy one but yet it must be done, oh and what fun it used to be, not until I have now many than I can keep. Your fear of me has hindered your living, you fear me yet you ignore the MAKER do you not know he is the only one that can save you from me oh mortal man. At first I used to be glad when a man died by his brother’s hand, but now it holds no interest to me for it is now another cliché.
I write this letter from my cold chambers take this advice from a man who lives dead; in this darkness there is no light. You waste your time seeking immortality, the elixir that would change your fate do you not know that on earth immortality is a curse? Oh how unwise of you mortal man. I am immortal you fool and look what that has brought me years and years in this endless struggle, do you really believe immortality is the solution? Oh of course you must. Here on this path is immortality. If you so seek it you must then cross over, you must come to find comfort in the cold of my chambers, what a silly thing that will be my mortal man. Why do you seek solace where there is none, why beg a prisoner for freedom, why? Why? Why? Mortal man, please tell me why? Why do you send your young to me? Why do you try to save your skin? You know you’ll be mine someday, why not come as willing as you should? Oh how I long for the time you’ll finally see when you would finally understand I am not the enemy at least not to you. Mortal man you understand all things wrongly, seeking vengeance for a war you started have you no brain at all, has time made you daft? Oh my dear I beg of you my chambers is too cold for you, stay in the light and live your life, right your wrongs and heal your heart. Laugh, love, serve the MAKER and make all things right with him before I come for you. Every time a man is sent to me he kneels and begs for another chance, send me back that I may warn others, my family and friends oh how they have strayed, and when I free him and let him go he strays from his mission and terrifies people and they run around screaming “ghost, ghost I’ve seen a ghost” well my dear am sending no one back, that is the aim of this letter I want you to know that I am tired of seeing the young ones here even those unborn. Ah mortal man what more can I say that the MAKER has not already said, he has given you rules which you have sworn not to follow, do not kill, never kill but what do you do? You kill your fellow man and you blame me. I wish I could hold you and shake some sense into you but I fear my hands are too cold and if I do that I’ll claim you as my own. Oh then there is that fear in me again that you wouldn’t heed my words well I needn’t worry I’ll just do as I always do throw my door open and welcome you for you are what you are a mortal man.
