Reruns: A Second-Coming Christmas Poem for the Other 364 Days

in #poetry6 years ago

Remember the light that came before Earth’s sun.
You were there. Remember. Remember and awaken. Awaken.
(Sanskrit interpretations by Dana Andersen. Shiva Shakti Om CD. Angelika)

Billions of human births
Fly in the anti-nature
Well-camouflaged faces of self-appointed demi-gods
Who casually keep war alive.
Naked helpless souls enter this zone
Innocent and unaware
But for abrupt discomfort
And a sense of forever within each fresh second.

Wounded from the start
Humanity kills its mother
Plows down its wild home
All of us Adams lost in unnatural skies, mists of lies,
Our guilty trip away from love.
And here we are again:

Hundreds of bittersweet Christmases
(“He was born to die for us…”)
(So, Sin and Death lurk in the nativity narrative?
Stealing Life’s sovereignty the rest of days?
And weaving millennia of cruelty
Into Love’s misrepresented plan?)

Glowing portraits of the one infant
perceived as savior
Live in our hearts, quaint echoes of a paradise
Of perfected love, of possibilities, of reverence for all
Earth’s newest produce

And the overdue sea-change transcends the reruns.

Pull back fear like curtains in the morning
And see the Kingdom: awakened billions working together,
The just world that can be instantly
Safe for Christ-children everywhere
Every hour
til time itself is a memory.

Remember the love that was before Earth’s dawn.
You were there. Remember. Remember and awaken. Awaken.
