A run trow, Poker history!
The historical origin of poker is difficult to pinpoint. A theory quoted by game historians relates to a text, dated 1934, authored by Jonathan H. Green, as one of the earliest written references to poker ever reported. This text details the rules of poker that were called at the beginning, of the "cheating game". This game, popular in the Mississippi region, was christened by J.H.Green as poker, however, it is unclear why he used this word.
Some attribute the origin of the game to the Sung Dynasty in China in the tenth century, while others point to its beginning with the Persian, in a game called "The Nas" in the 16th century.
Other historians of the game say that its origin is in a French word, "poque", which was the name of a game of that country. According to this theory, the game was taken from France to the United States through a group of French settlers who would have founded the city of New Orleans. From then on, it would spread along the route of the Mississippi River during the eighteenth century and become popular in the United States during the nineteenth century, when the country began its expansion to the west. For this reason, the history of poker is sometimes associated with the old American West.
At the beginning of the 20th century, poker was declared illegal in the state of Nevada, United States. However, because poker was considered more of a "skill game" than a "game of chance", California officials ruled that gambling laws could not apply to this game. This decision allowed the game to develop and gain popularity, and later the state of Nevada ends up abolishing its ban, legalizing it in its casinos in the year 1931.
On April 29, 2010, the International Mind Sports Association (IMSA) officially recognized poker as a mental skill sport.
Currently, around the world, poker is governed by strict rules, both on the internet and in physical casinos, and its tournaments and various competitions have been conferred on it, an international sporting event status.
