Save Net Neutrality- Cyber Bully Ajit Pai

in #politics7 years ago

In general I'm a huge fan of free markets however net neutrality is an important issue where I have to make an exception as a rational person would. While having a set of ideals is important, it is foolish to follow them based on principle when not practical. When it comes to net neutrality, the benefits of an open forum to better humanity where everyone is equal far outweigh the benefits of letting big telecom giants profit off of people simply trying to use what should be considered a basic utility.

When the internet was first created, it did not have to be regulated as no one thought to throttle data, block websites and censor content. The internet in its early days was simply a forum for education and entertainment, the sharing of information that allowed people to find their niche and community. No one realized how essential the internet would become to our daily lives. Today, our freedom to access sites like Steemit, to conduct commerce, to access news, and to share information freely is in jeopardy. If we allow the FCC to repeal the protections safeguarding us from predatory telecom giants there will be much less freedom in the United States.

Heres where the cyber bullying comes in (feel free to make fun of FCC chairman Ajit Pai's oversized Reeses Mug)- The FCC allows for comments from the public. Although they will likely disregard our comments, it cant hurt to bombard them with mail. At least forces them to realize that what they are doing is against the will of the people.

To contact the FCC and voice your concerns, visit the link below and enter 17-108 where it asks for a proceedings code.

It also helps to contact your local representatives (Congressmen and women as well Senators to let them know that you support net neutrality).

If all of this fails, there are still ways around the possible censorship of websites, high prices and ridiculous internet packages that telecom companies are sure to implement. Many communities are looking into building their own internets. Projects like these are awesome. A publicly owned cooperative or open project of some sort could easily build a new free internet. There are a variety of these projects already in progress and it would be awesome if we could build our own network, putting the evil people in big telecom out of business. Maybe one of these projects could be funded using crypto? Just an idea.

Let me know what you think of Net Neutrality.
