DEI mandates repealed in NC Universities

in #politics2 months ago

I kind of called this a few years ago when the world continued to go complete mad with inclusion and diversity taking over all aspects of life. When this was introduced to North Carolina state-funded schools and universities, there were a great many people that were like me that were saying "get that California bullshit out of our state."

I don't know what compelled them to introduce them to schools here anyway and politicians, unless they were opposed to it, didn't want their names attached to any of this because this state is primarily conservative and support of DEI would seriously impact their ability to get elected.

After the recent incidents that saw the world rally behind what was called by the media "a bunch of frat boys" protecting a US flag from Palestine protesters, the state started to take notice that the people of North Carolina, as well as the people who ended up giving nearly half a million dollars to these boys, that the tide of public opinion has definitely turned.

North Carolina is an unusual state in that we are not fully red and we are not fully blue. We regularly elect liberals and conservatives into office and we are even sometimes considered a "swing state" in Presidential elections although we have been kind of removed from that list in 2024 because there is almost no Biden support. There's plenty of never-Trumpers but as far as people that genuinely feel like Biden is a good choice are few and far between.

I don't really want to talk about that though. I do want to talk about how the NC Board of Governors voted 22-2 to repeal the DEI initiatives there were quietly introduced out of the public eye back in 2019. It's funny to me that most people weren't even aware of the fact that this ever was made a ruling because as I mentioned before, nobody in a position of power wanted to advertise that they were ever supporting it.

It's not a huge amount of money, but $2.3 million is being taken away from the DEI initiative and is being re-focused into other, yet unspecified projects.

This announcement was met with mostly applause but of course there were some of the type of individuals that seem to want to protest anything that kicked up a fuss when the decision was announced. 2 people were arrested after property was damaged following the decision.

Not to be too judgmental but there are some people in this picture that look exactly like the kind of person that would be opposed to the elimination of DEI. We are well past the wearing masks part of life here yet people of a certain persuasion still continue to wear them. I've been told that it is not a concern for disease but to conceal their identity if and when they decide to wreck shit.

This decision all of sudden gained a lot of public support when there were clashes on college campuses with police over the Israel/Palestine thing that I honestly don't pay a great deal of attention to. I kind of saw it as a small group of over-zealous college students who were attempting to emulate big protests the likes of which were taking place in NYC and California.

Well guys, this is not NYC or California and honestly, if that is the sort of life that you want, I would encourage you to go ahead and move there.

The elimination of DEI is being vilified as "racist" by the media of course but the university system has been very clear that this in no way changes the equal opportunity that is afforded to people of all backgrounds. I don't really even know what they are protesting anymore. Just complaining for the sake of complaining.
