Government Competition with Uber/Lyft, or itself?

Kudos to Sacramento for Innovating

Microtransit.png

It seems that the City of Sacramento is trying to compete with Uber and Lyft. In reality it might be competing with its own transit system. Their intent is to use the dial-a-ride service more like Uber/Lyft. Anyone that knows how dial-a-ride works knows that it is a good service, but very inconvenient unless you plan days in advance.

The System intends to try the service as "micro-transit" door to door service on demand using and app. The great thing is we (the taxpayers) already fund the slow and inefficient system. Why not try something different? What if this works? Why would eligible riders take the bus, or for that matter why would they use Uber/Lyft?

I am glad to see a bit of innovation come out of local government. There is Hope.
