The Anti-Nationalist case for Scottish Independence

--The Anti-Nationalist case for Scottish Independence--

Scottish independence is a wide-spread topic not just in Scotland but all over the UK. Ever since the popularisation of the Scottish National Party (SNP) from 2010 to 2014, Scottish Independence also called Scottish Separatism has been at the forefront of Scottish Politics and to a degree Scottish Foreign Policy. The Notion of Independence has been pushed by the SNP, Scottish Greens, The Scottish Socialist Party and even the Scottish Libertarian Party, all of which use Nationalistic rhetoric to push the Independence Agenda forward. But i'm not a nationalist, I've sympathised with the Liberal/Civic Nationalist approach of the SNP but my personal reasons for being Pro-Independence are more "Academic" than the reasons the SNP will give.

My reasons are inherently Post-Colonialistic and Anarchistic in Nature, I don't see the point in having the Houses of Commons in charge of what Scotland or Scottish people can and can't do. Which is a sentiment i share with some of the Nationalists, but my key reason is in response to the Notion that the United Kingdom can just go back to ex-colonial states and pretend that that period of our history didn't happen, pretending that we didn't invade their country, steal their resources, kill their people, sell them into the slave trade, then leave. I don't buy the notion that we can just go and do that, if the UK is to do that, then the UK must implode. The UK must split, if we as people are to continue trade with those nations we have harmed then the UK must take its own beating.

The United Kingdom MUST end in order for friendly relationships to begin. Will there be economic hardship that follows this? Yes, Will there be bumps and roads off cliffs in this endeavour? Yes. But the point of the UK splitting up is to give independence not just as Nations but as people. Once the British Empire is done, once the commonwealth has ended, once all remanence of GREAT BRITAIN are gone, we can begin to repair the damage done to colonised nations and their people. Including the people of those nations who live in the "motherland" aka England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland (Geographically).

Once Great Britain as an empire is gone, then reparations can be made to what we did. We can begin to reform our police states so that people of African decent are not unfairly treated, create trade deals with African nations that aren't one sided, and finally ease tensions between ALL people in our nations. Because at the moment, we are sitting on a powder keg that might explode. One of the biggest issues facing countries like the UK the is the unwillingness to talk about the Empire, and explain why there are so many Africans in the UK, what we did to their nations and what we can do to repair it.

This systematic unwillingness is what creates the Far-right, when you don't talk about your history, you allow anyone with an agenda to fill in the blanks and drive hatred. This can go for America as well, in fact any country. If you hate the Far-right hatred, regardless of whether you are a fellow left winger or a centre-right conservative, the first step is and will always be EDUCATION if you teach them what America/Britain did to those nations then it will be easier for them to understand why those people are there and why "sending them back" just isn't an option.

The biggest example of showing your history is Germany, Germans don't hide what happened, they don't take pride in it. But they know that if they don't confront that monster early on, it's just going to ruin everything. In the UK we see this with the rise of UKIP, The BNP and the hard right Brexiteers in the Conservative party. If you put everything for show, you give less power to those who will lead with an Iron Fist and lies.

If England is SO confident in their economic model then they should know they will be able to make the money lost by the break up of the UK back up. If they are scared of the break up of the UK then clearly Scotland isn't the one living off of them, its the other way round.
