So the United States Government Just Shut Down - What Does That Even Mean?

We've been here before, folks

Last time the government shut down, Ini and I were hitch hiking in California. Part of the governmental shut down means National Parks are closed. Hmm... That's where we rely on sleeping on our travels oftentimes!

We snuck in anyway and had a nice peaceful time by the river in solitude!

But what does it mean for majority of Americans, Government workers, the government itself??

According to CNN:

  • Thousands of federal employees will be placed on furlough -- meaning they won't report to work Monday. Whoever works for agencies and departments that are considered nonessential, including agencies that pay out small business loans and process passport requests, will cease to work effective immediately until Congress is able to agree on a bill for the federal budget."
  • For the White House that means "1,056 members of the Executive Office of the President would be furloughed, and 659, considered essential, would continue to report to work."
  • For the Military, still report for duty, but potential to not be paid if it lasts for a long time!

That's a lot of unhappy people potentially! Sorry to any government employees!

But at least we'll still get our mail. Thanks US Postal Service!

Of course the Republicans are blaming the Democrats and Democrats aren't owning up to it!

I'm sure it's a lot more complex than that anyway
And they're going to say things like:

"We are committed to making sure the American people, especially our great military and the most vulnerable children are taken care of." ~Press secretary Sarah Sanders

When in reality,

This is just a pissing and shouting match amongst a bunch of old white men...

(from our Twitterer-in-chief)

That doesn't affect anyone except for the people who work for the government (sorry guys! get a new job working for creating alternative economies and not feeding the machine!)

Let's put our energy instead into building the world we want to live in! Ecovillages, local small communities, organic Non GMO farming, homeschooling and unschooling, consciousness raising activities like meditation and energy healing, renewable energy! Governments aren't the answer anyway!!

What a nice present for Trump's First Year in Office! :D

They'll probably get as much done today as they did last week!

The absolute best government shutdown post! I agree 100%. I hope they stay shut down forever.

Here is a rather naive question. Would not a government shut-down be a perfect excuse for Martial Law? I mean, if they can't pay for Law enforcement, they will have to keep up "Law and Order", right? Or what am I missing. Please educate me...

I believe it's a federal shutdown which doesn't affect the states. I'm pretty sure states or even smaller communities pay for police.

Nice to meet you @cahlen. A wizard does as he pleases! Following your adventures.

That they do @choosefreedom. Glad to meet you as well!

Yay for friends meeting each other :)

Thank you for your answer. Have not thought about that. Makes sense what you say...

Anything’s possible, they barely try to make up believable excuses for the shit they pull these days. Unfortunately most will accept further erosion of personal freedom. Adam Kokesh sits in a cage and we aren’t rioting.

People are struggling to survive, they’re numb.

As far as “law enforcement” we still have the good old state and local governments up and running. No need for military intervention. But, since when has the federal government cared about what WE need?

Never let a good crisis go to waste, as Rahm Emmanuel said...

You were fair to both sides, succinct in your condensing of ideas into words, and ended with a powerfully positive message... amazing article @mountainjewel!

I appreciate your words @cahlen <3

I sure hope they don't cave and waste a bunch of money on that clown's racist wall. Like you said, let it stay shut down. Just a bunch of old, white fools.

Exactly oh and that wall... wtf are they thinking- nobody wants that wall! Stone Age mentality! Haven’t they paid attention to Berlin and every castle ever? The walls always come tumbling down... there’s no money for it anyway. I for one will hit the streets and probably go down there and protest if they start up on it. That whole area of New Mexico Arizona and Texas WAS Mexico at one time!!

He is absolute Stone Age. It's hateful and a waste of money. I swear they need to let me get my hands on that budget.

so true, perhaps even pre stone age. you get that budget!

Here is a rather naive question. Would not a government shut-down be a perfect excuse for Martial Law? I mean, if they can't pay for Law enforcement, they will have to keep up "Law and Order", right? Or what am I missing. Please educate me...

I don’t know about that! I’d have to do some research myself...

This 2-party system is just 2 sides of the same coin. Society has done such a great job of giving the term 'anarchy' such a negative connotation, that I still subconsciously cringe a bit when hearing it, even though it's the term that most closely aligns with my beliefs!

Exactly! well said!

Anything that deviates from the norm is programmed in us (if we’re raised mainstream) to make us cringe! It’s a life’s work to let go of that programming- same boat. Create the systems and thoughts we resonate with and that make our soul’s sing!

Yes! Let go of that programming and then make our children aware so they don't fall prey, that's a huge reason why we homeschool!

Right on @crowbarmama, you’re doing the good work! Strength to you :)

Don't feel to bad for the federal employees the last time the government shut down I was one of the employees furloughed. It was awesome a free vacation then when we went back to work they back paid us for all the time missed.

Oh good to know!!

Interesting! Following from Canada.
