Voting and Politics- Educated and uneducated
Introduction
The most prestigious and valuable thing a citizen can do for its country is voting. The fate of the country depends on whether the population has made or not the right choice for its government, parliament or president.
I believe that uneducated or poorly educated citizens should not be given the right to vote because their amount of knowledge is not suited enough for taking such crucial decisions.
Opinion
First of all, in order to vote, you need to have an idea about how things work in a country, and you cannot acquire this kind of information unless you know the constitution of the said country. A constitution is, by definition, a written instrument embodying the rules of a political or social organization, which concludes in the basic principles and laws of a nation, state or social group that determine the powers and duties of the government and guarantee certain rights to the people in it. Uninformed and uneducated people cannot possibly make a good choice of a leader without being aware of the basic principles of the said state.
Second of all, without a proper education and political knowledge, the voter cannot focus on the nation’s needs as a whole, but to his own, for their interest is different than that of the educated ones. The lack of education makes the basic needs of a person take the first place in one’s list of priorities, those being food, money and a roof to live under. Educated people are capable of acknowledging more important needs of the population as a community, such as the lack corruption, correctness of the leaders and government, a high level of education and thus a small percentage of illiteracy, freedom, and so on, whereas uneducated people focus more on what can be palpable, and settling on material things
In addition, the lack of education can lead to a very easily manipulated type of persons. Uneducated or poorly educated people are usually target for the malevolent and dishonest candidates, whom campaigns are made in such a way that they attract this very category of people. Whether they make promises they don’t intend to keep, like raising wages, alimonies or any type of income, or just giving away practical products like pens, calendars, empty buckets or even food packages which usually consist of all-purpose-flour, cooking oil, biscuits and several cans of pressed meat, they are winning them over in a heartbeat, the ones having to suffer being the well informed and educated people.
Conclusion
To sum up, the fact that people with a not-so-bright education have a right to vote impacts all the population of a state in a negative way. Poorly educated citizens being allowed to vote can often result in corrupt politicians having all the power. Therefore, uneducated people should not be allowed to vote, for they can have a huge impact in the negative way the country is changing.
