Oxford and Cambridge do not have black students

in #politics7 years ago

According to the application by the main opposition Labor Party deputy David Lamy in the UK under the "freedom of information law", 13 of 32 colleges under the roof of Oxford University did not even accept a single black student in 2010-2015.

In the same period, only 3 Oxford College students were accepted as black students, while none of the 4 colleges of 29 colleges within the country's other major higher education institution Cambridge University received any black students.

Only 1 percent

While only 1 percent of the students taken by Cambridge University were blacks, the proportion of Pakistani students was less than 1 percent.

Lammy acknowledged that the University of Oxford, which refuses to disclose data on students' ethnicity, has agreed to share the information at the end of what he learned of the news in The Guardian.

Lammy argued that student prosperity in Oxford and Cambridge, which receives roughly 800 million pounds sterling each year, does not represent the proportion of blacks in society.

According to the 2011 census, 3% of the population of England and Wales, 56 million, is black.
80 percent of the students are from the top two social classes

More than 80 percent of the students admitted to Oxford and Cambridge, according to Lammy, are children of the parents of the top two societies.

Geographical distribution of students accepted by two universities also reveals inequality. According to this, more than half of the students come from the south of England and from London, 11% are middle and 15% from north England.

Oxford and Cambridge Universities are known as the schools where many leading UK politicians are trained.
Among the recent high-profile graduates of the universities are former Prime Minister David Cameron of the country and current Prime Minister Theresa May, Foreign Minister Boris Johnson and Finance Minister Philip Hammond. resized_3aae6-b64979bcgraduation.jpg
