Comment on Germany's coalition deal

in #politics7 years ago (edited)

Last week representatives of the CDU, CSU and SPD signed the coalition contract and the coalition negotiations finally came to an end.

Nevertheless, many people are disappointed about the outcome of the negotiations: All people only talked about whom within the SPD will get which authorities. Although the SPD has achieved a lot in terms of the content in the coalition contract. In addition there is the displeasure of a this coalition from large parts of the SPD members, which will vote until March 2, whether it will eventually come to a coalition. Furthermore the Jusos (SPD youth organization) and especially their national chairman Kevin Kühnert are clearly against a new great coalition.

But not only within the SPD (who only get 16% in current surveys) the people are disappointed about the negotiation results. Also in the CDU and CSU (Union) and especially within the CDU there are many members, delegates and officials who are dissatisfied with the result.

In terms of content, the contract has a "red handwriting" and moreover the important Ministry of Finance has been handed over to the SPD. So it is not surprising that even the Junge Union (youth organization of the CDU and CSU) finds clear words for the negotiation results: "It is very disappointing how the future will be made more difficult for us as a youth," writes Philipp van Gels, the state chairman of the Junge Union Bremen.

The JU state chairman Antonia Niecke from Hamburg finds even tougher words: "The negotiation results are a fiasco for our country - and for our party".

It seems as if there is almost nobody without the party's board members, which positively rate the great coalition. Especially the younger generations rate the coalition as negative. Not really surprising! In the end, they will be the ones who have to pay back the extremely high expenses written down in the contract. And it seems like the only reason for this is, that Angela Merkel still wants to be the Chancellor and it prevents the SPD to completely lose its importance.

How do you think about it? I look forward to exciting posts and a lively discussion in the comments!

"it prevents the SPD to completely lose its importance." The SPD might not see it yet but this is EXACTLY what will drive them into insignificance

Thats true! They only thinks about the situation right now and not about the long run...
