To Those Who Cheer The Arrest Of Julian Assange: Be Careful What You Wish For

WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, was forced from the Ecuadorian embassy, and had his citizenship suspended by the Ecuadorian foreign minister. As of this day, he is likely to face extradition to the US, and is unlikely to receive a fair trial, according to CIA whistleblower John Kiriakou.

As it stands, Assange faces charges in the UK for failing to surrender bail. He's been charged by the US for assisting Manning to crack a password, and sexual harassment charges from Sweden, and once extradited, could face more charges in relation to leaking war crimes from Iraq and Afghanistan. In other words, nothing related to Russia. This hasn't stopped the McResistance from cheering on his arrest.

There have been some in mainstream media circles who have voiced dissent on this issue and have acknowledged the precedent it sets.

I wish there were more pundits who spoke out about this because this is a case where Trump ACTUALLY IS threatening press freedom. Forget the shit tweets about sleepy-eyes Chuck Todd, by jailing Julian Assange, he's setting the precedent where he and future presidents can jail journalists for telling the truth. I can't call this a slippery slope. It's a downward spiral, because our government can come after alt-media for reporting about the war crimes, and then the goalposts will move to even mainstream journalists. And no, there won't be a Trump Ex Machina for Assange, so all you QAnon cultists wake the fuck up!! The facts are, despite his populist rhetoric, he's the establishment's bitch boy. He's bombing 8 countries, he's deregulated Wall Street, he's increased the military budget, and now he's cracking down on journalists. It's time to accept reality.

Anyone who is cheering this on, doesn't support the truth or transparency. If you support jailing a journalist because he leaked information about Queen Hillary, here's your ticket to ShutTheFuckUpsVille.

By the end of the day, regardless of your thoughts on Assange, he's the only journalist who speaks the truth about our government. People like Chris Hayes and David Corn are all traitors to journalism. If you're a reporter who is cheering this on, this will come back around to bite you on the ass.
