The inanity of political discourse; now it's OK to Fat Shame

in #politics7 years ago (edited)

This is why I don't take the mainstream news media seriously anymore. A few years ago there was this big push to stop fat shaming (especially by many on the left). Now it's OK as long as it's Donald Trump who's being shamed. Of course, Trump pretty much brought this on himself by calling women "fat pigs" (karma is like that), but why do we even care? Is there nothing more important we should be focusing on?

What happened to the news media? I remember Walter Kronkite reporting the news on a black and white TV in the 1960's. Just about every night there was the war dead count from Vietnam. Then he would always end the broadcast by saying "that's the way it was".

The News is now Decentralized, but lacks a Consensus Algorithm

What happened to the fact checking department's of the big news organizations? They lost their revenue. When the internet was born in the early 90's, their most profitable source of revenue was the classified AD's and it was undermined by Craigslist and other websites doing the same service for free. The same happened to television a while later when videos were finally able to fit through an internet connection in the early 2000's with YouTube.

So in order to survive, these agencies eliminated their fact checking departments. Investigative journalism has been drastically downsized. At the same time, the phenomena of "reality TV" was born, just as it was becoming more unreal than ever.

Andreas Antonopoulos has a prediction. He says that what happened to the news media because of the internet, is about to happen to the banking industry because of "the internet of money". Fake news will eventually become "fake money". When this happens, will you complain about what disgusting things are coming out of Trump's mouth, or will you be in line at the bank?

There’s a point here, that image of #45 as I like to refer to him aka forty five (Quattro-Cinco if you’re Chad Johnson aka Ocho-Cinco), is referred to as “news.” Really, that’s news?
What’s next? Beyoncé got Jay-Z a new puppy and I’m expected to believe that’s news, too? “Wait, What? that actually happened?!”

I try my best to cut mainstream news from my diet. Buncha clowns on TV nowadays

He says that what happened to the news media because of the internet, is about to happen to the banking industry because of "the internet of money".

This most likely is going to happen, it's just a matter of time. Also, in today's time, there are so many irrelevant news, and the saddest thing is that those news are the most popular. Standards have changed...

I dont like the fact that the news is about fighting the people who dont think they do. It comes from both sides. I think the news should be less political. I dont think political views have a place in presenting the news. This has ruined what the news set out to do which was to report facts. Now its all based on opinions and biases. Literally if you watch coverage of the same story on Fox News and then CNN you will see the story being spun in different directions. This causes people to watch who reports stories that represent their personal values and beliefs which isn’t always right. The news is very messed up nowadays. And nobody looks around to come to their own conclusions. They hear something and believe it.
