Before lauching polygon, Jayni Kanani and he's team were building on the ethereum blockchain and were huge contributors to it's ecosystem. They were involved in developing the Plasma MVP, Walletconnect protocol and also the widely used Dagger event notification engine on ethereum.
Then fully aware of the issues associated with working on ethereum, lauched polygon as a solution.

Polygon boasts of processing about 65,000 transactions per second which beats that of ethereum which about 15 seconds as well as a block confirmation time of less than 2 seconds. This makes it home to about 19,000+ dapps that run on it's network solving various world problems, and about 130M users. Polygon features high scalability, security, interoperability and many more.

Matic, the native tokens of Polygon, is an ERC-20 token running on the Ethereum blockchain. It has a total supply of 10,000,000,000 and a circulating supply of 8,042,124,683. Matic is used to pay transacton fees on the Polygon network, also for governance and staking, it plays an increasingly important role in securing the system and enabling governance.
It is listed on major exchanges like: Binance, Coinbase pro, FTX etc.
