Photo Description
The photo was taken at Pashupatinath Temple ,Kathmandu,Nepal. One of the famous, sacred Hindu temple located at the banks of Bagmati River. This temple is also listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites's.
The person in the photo is a great devotee of and lord Shiva and Vishnu and practices Hinduism. They are also referred as Vole Baba or Sadhu Baba. They have left their normal life behind along with their wealth and family and dedicated their life completely becoming a Sadhu Baba. They have chosen to live lives apart from or on the edges of society to focus on their own spiritual practices.Their main goal is to obtain Moksha which in psychological means freedom from ignorance: self-realization and self-knowledge.
Who am I, and in what really do I consist? What is this cage of suffering?
— Jayakhya Samhita, Verse 5.7.
There is a mass gathering of Sadhus from the India and Nepal every once in a year during the festival known as "Maha ShivaRatri" dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva at Pashupatinath. It is belived that in this festival night Shiva performs the heavenly dance of creation, preservation and destruction. Its a festival were weed/Marijuana becomes legal for the day. Well, kind of legal until you get caught open handed. But at this festival many people smokes weed as a worship to Lord Shiva who is believed to smoke weed everyday.
