Creality Ender 3 Build Impressions and First Test

Ollie G and I are building the Ender 3 today #3dprinting (1).jpg

Ollie the cat and I built the Ender 3 3D printer today.

This, as the name suggests, is the improved successor of the Ender 2, with a larger build area (~220mm+ x 220mm+ x 250).

It is a kit, and the instructions are fine. Thankfully you don't have to build it entirely from scratch, so while it arrives flatpacked saving on shipping, you get that benefit without the truly annoying printer build experience. You get a one sheet instructions, and a more detailed set on the included SD card (with included reader).

Partly due to the fact you build it yourself, it is available at the shocking price of under $250 USD. Let me know if you want my GearBest link which will allow you to get it for $179 USD!

Unlike the 2, it has two uprights and is supported at the top. It still, however, has one Z motor (the Ender was fine, and even the CR-10, with only one Z motor so I am not worried).

It uses the same Mk10 bowden setup, which has been a good performer. The bed is 24v for fast heat up (not that you might need heated bed when using PLA on the nice builtdak style surface).

A nice surprise is they have brought over the power fail and filament runout features from the CR-10S series!

So far, while it is too soon for a review, I am impressed with this machine, especially for the price!

What if we want that annoyingness of building it from scratch? :P

I kinda like the idea of a kit. I like building it and knowing how it all goes together. There are different kinds of people. There's a significant overlap with the type of people that would get the most use from a 3D printer and the type that either doesn't mind or even likes something coming as a kit. It's like a grown-up lego set. You can even use your own parts to improve it. I think building it yourself even makes you more comfortable modifying it.

I have literally lost count now of my 3d printer collection so I am pretty over building them :)

Well, most people probably haven't built as many as you. Maybe you need to rediscover the fun of Legos. :P

Oh I never lost the fun of that, I have a room full of unopened star wars sets just waiting - people keep buying me them for birthdays and such :)

Sounds like some sort of project waiting to happen. Maybe a lego drone. :D

Holy shit, that's the best 3D printed cat I've ever seen.

Everybody focuses on the cat, but look at the amount of money on the left. @makerhacks is rich!

What did you print out with it ?? is it printing well ?? Since you told me you have got many 3d printers....have you ever thought of selling any of them ?? i could be interested to buy a 3D printer soon :D

I donated a bunch of printers to a local makerspace :)

First print failed right at the end but looked nice otherwise

Seems printing very neat and nice! What is the price of such printer?? What types of filaments it could accept??

This one is on offer for $180 usd at GearBest today, otherwise it’s usually $250

It prints PLA, petg, abs, etc
