It's an exciting period of time. There are Kickstarter projects that have 3D printers that try to sell at less than 100 dollars (FDM, SLA) - what do you think about those?

Well, I would rather save up money for better and slightly more expensive ones for two reasons.

It's Kickstarter. You could wait dozens of months if not years and final product might be very different. This is especially true for these budget products made by inexperienced teams.
These machines are full of tradeoffs. They're using cheapest parts available. That means you WILL have problems and quality of printed parts will be low. Very bad when you're printing functional parts where you need good tolerances. Safety is a big concern too. They can literally burn down your house!

Yes, I agree with you for both parts. Best to get one that is reliable and good!
