Personal Privacy is Hard

in #privacy5 years ago

I don't know about you but I like my privacy and about a year ago I woke up and realized that I had pretty much completely given up my digital privacy. I decided that I wanted to take it back so I started researching how to do that. What I found was that it is really difficult to take it back once you gave it up. If you are busy with life like I am it is a slow process.

Some Steps to Take

The first step is realizing what is out there on the internet. A Google search of your name can give you an idea how exposed you are. If you show up in page one of the search then think about it as though you have your bathroom window wide open. Even if you don't show up you might still be exposed just not as much. You can either learn to the research yourself or you can higher someone to do it for you. It can be scary when you see what it out there.

The second thing to do is to limit Google as much as you can which is really hard to do. Getting Google is a post in it's own.

Third look at your Social Media accounts and see what it says about you. People share way too much about themselves on there. Make it all private to begin with. There are so many other things you should do but making it private is the start.

It's worth it!!!

There is so much you have to do to regain your privacy but I think it is really worth it. You also need to decide how much privacy you need to take back. To be honest you need to take back at least enough information to make it hard for someone to hack you.

That's all I got for now. So be safe and be private.
