Newbie trying to upload profile photo

Unbelievable! I have been trying to upload a profile photo and have spent the last 2 hours trying to understand how to. Everything I have tried to follow goes absolutely nowhere. Steemit is not at all user friendly and certainly not for ordinary new users.
