For those who follow my work, it will be no surprise that the topic I research the most is Psychedelics. In this post, I will share with you some of the hidden gems of my recent journey through the psychedelic digital jungle of interesting articles, podcast, and studies that I have found.

Psychedelics help to accelerate a maturation process, where we can see that we’re not operating within silos. Instead, we’re operating as part of a larger collective and part of a larger community. Thanks to the revival of psychedelic science, we’ve (re)discovered that psychedelic therapy can benefit sufferers of severely debilitating conditions where current treatments fail. We’ve started to develop an understanding of what psychedelics do to the brain, and how psychedelics can have such transformative power…

Pioneering UConn MDMA Research Focused on People of Color Ends Early: What Are the Next Steps for Equity in Treatment?

The fast-growing field of psychedelic research is left with some big shoes to fill. Last month, a pioneering MDMA research study led by Dr. Monnica T. Williams which focused on healing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in people of color was terminated early after completing its pilot stage.
Dr. Williams explained that this type of clinical trial proceeds in three stages. In the first pilot stage, the research team works with one participant given MDMA with no placebo. Following the pilot are two randomized stages in which participants are divided into two groups, with one given the active drug and the other a placebo.

There are so many different ways to look at science and spirituality. I’m not alone— in the psychedelic community, especially— in seeing how something man can understand and have power over, like science, is also perhaps the result of a higher dimension. That actually works very well if you don’t think about those things exclusively, but for some people it does continue to be problematic. My personal spiritually leans in the Eastern direction, probably like a lot of other people interested in psychedelics.

Let’s Talk About Psychedelic-Induced Psychosis

Two years later, that tingle ran up my spine during a documentary screening in Hollywood. The movie was Shane Mauss’ “Psychonautics,” informatively subtitled “A Comic’s Exploration of Psychedelics.”
The film opens with Shane on stage, offering an audience the shortest version of the story. “I wanted to prove that psychedelics are not as scary as they seem. So I did all of them.” He chuckles, and then adds off-handedly: “I just got out of a psych ward.”

Kelan has a kind of obsessional curiosity that I think is an important quality in someone who makes playlists for psychedelic experiences. I realized that he has this trait when I found out that, in addition to his making his own playlists, he had researched, assembled, and listened to the playlists for all the recent major psychedelic studies; which, in some cases, involved reaching out to researchers and convincing them to share this music with him. He is also constantly going to live shows and has happily come over to my house just to sit and listen to music together. More recently, he helped to coordinate the playlist for the UCSF study on Psychedelic-Assisted Group Therapy for Demoralization in Long Term AIDS Survivors. He is also one of the affiliated researchers on this study.
