Happy 142nd Birthday Carl Jung
Carl Gustav Jung, born on this date, July 26th 1875 in Kesswil, Thugau, Switzerland. Though famous for his work in the field of psychiatry and psychoanalysis, Jung’s range and depth of humanity make him difficulty to fully categorize. His groundbreaking work introduced many well-known concepts such as the collective unconscious, synchronicity, introversion and extroversion.
“Spiritually of the Western world is in a precarious situation, and the danger is greater the more we blind ourselves to the merciless truth with illusions about our beauty of soul.” Carl Jung, The Spiritual Problem of Modern Man, 1928
“If the individual, overwhelmed by the sense of his own puniness and impotence, should feel that his life has lost its meaning… then he is already on the road to State slavery and, without knowing or wanting it, has become its proselyte.” Carl Jung, The Undiscovered Self (1957)
Clark University 1909. Front: Sigmund Freud, G. Stanley Hall, Carl Jung. Back: Abraham Brill, Ernest Jones, Sandor Ferenczi
“But what is significant in psychic life always lies below the horizon of consciousness, when we speak of the spiritual problem of modern man we are speaking of things that are barely visible-of the most intimate and fragile things, of flowers that open only in the night.” Carl Jung, The Spiritual Problem of Modern Man, 1928
