RE: Thе Pаrаdоx оf Trust

in #psychology7 years ago

Excellent post! I work in vaccine hesitancy and can tell you, its all about trust. When choosing whether to trust, people are seen to make a judgements based on someone's (or a system/institutions) values and competence. I.e. do they have your best interests at heart and have they performed well in the past. In healthcare mistakes can be damaging but the value misalignment can be catastrophic (think the difference between giving to wrong vaccine and finding out a doctor is receiving a financial incentive from a pharmaceutical company). It can be a hard choice for some, trust makes things a lot less complicated but like you say, it opens you up to risk. Sadly though it’s the only way a distributed expertise society like ours can function, everyone can’t know everything. Great post will likely link to it in the future.
