Benefits of Moderate Consumption of Alcohol
Moderate Consumption of Alcohol may cause better health markers, then of those
who abstain. There are health benefits to drinking moderately, but what is moderate drinking?moderate consumption is for men about 2-3 drinks daily and for women it is about 1 drink a day. Scientific studies show that moderate consumption can lower heart disease. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the US and it kills about 1 million Americans each year. (Hanson 2013). Alcohol promotes good heart health in many ways according to research. Some ways are it increases HDL (good) cholesterol and it decreases LDL (bad) cholesterol. It decreases blood clotting by increases the “fibrinolysis) which helps dissolve blood clots. Other ways it reduces coronary artery spasm in response to stress, it increases coronary blood flow, reduces blood pressure, reduces blood insulin levels, and increases estrogen levels. (Hanson 2013).

Moderate consumption has also been linked to Alzheimer’s and dementia. Moderate consumption reduces the risk of memory loss. “In a study of 7,983 people aged 55 of age or older in The Netherlands was done for an average of 6 years. Those who had one to three drinks of per day had a much lower risk of dementia than abstainers”(Hanson). In females moderate consumption of alcohol lowered the risks of osteoporosis (Lajoy 2017). It has also been found that moderate drinking also helps prolong life about 5 years.
In conclusion when it comes to consuming alcohol moderation is key. The health benefits only apply to moderate drinking and not heavy drinking. Who wouldn’t like to have a glass of wine or a beer and know they are doing their health some good.

(I found this pretty interesting, this was a paper I had to write for my psychology class )
