RE: Understanding Your Mind Palace

in #psychology7 years ago

Wow! This post will make you think, thats for sure!

It's easy to sit here and shit on Trump supporters who refuse to believe they were influenced by Russian interference and people that listen to Alex Jones. But we have to understand if we want to be able to reach them that they are people whose mind palace is constructed to certain world view and they are excited that for once they are finding validation instead of having to sink in a torrent of doubt.

Reminds of of the old saying, "you can lead a horse to water but cant make them drink."

Some people dont have the desire to learn fact and to those people, you just gotta let them believe what they want until theyre ready to know truth. That normally doesnt come until what happens effects them and then theyll see the light a bit.

Thanks! With few exceptions I would say people don't intentionally believe stuff that is false. So then where does seemingly willful ignorance come from? This post was meant to be a step towards answering that. What if they are never ready? Are there techniques you can use to break through? These seem like pressing things we need to learn before 2020...

Ive always just tried to give correct info, with the source and how they can find info themselves if they choose to look. Some issues are harder than others because like you said, a lot of people have grown into this way of thinking. It will take something huge to change their mind, as you said its basically engraved in their brains. Its quite frustrating when the evidence is right in their faces and they choose not to see it or listen. At that point, all I can do is walk away. Im not a big fan of stubborn horses!
