Announcing PsyCultureRadio | A Hub For Psychedelic Culture & Dialogue | 1/2 - The Need For A New Outlet
Today marks a milestone for my weird masterplan in life that - to my amazement - is ever more unfolding. It's been tickling me for years and recently I've been getting more and more signals that - what was once just a faint idea - will finally turn into reality in the next months, because it's time.
For these past two years I have been writing about a lot of things on Steem that move me in life, I have shared many tales I have collected on psy-dancefloors around Europe and all the resulting thoughts, insights and lessons about my own journey in life.
And since I am now increasingly seeing an end to an old me, the end of a long and challenging era in my life I have felt compelled to move my media activities into high gear and to try something that may outright fail just as much as it may be exactly what is needed at this time on Earth.
You see, the psy scene is a curious thing. On one hand we like to be off-radar, a place only those people ever reach who followed their inner call, not those who saw a freakin' commercial on TV.
Most people in the psy scene I have talked to over the years feel that - for all those who found their way there - it was perfectly logical and reasonable to eventually arrive on their own accord, because it simply was time and they had heeded their call!
Some were taken by good friends in trust and were shown this marvellous microcosm of human society, others stumbled upon the scene on their own hitchhiking or healing journeys trying to find themselves - backpacking -, and yet others arrived purely because of their love for music and the amazingly satisfying WTF moment they experienced when they heard their first good psy track in life, somehow knowing with certainty that THIS IS IT! THIS IS WHAT I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN LOOKING FOR! I NEED TO GO AND SEE THIS THING IN ACTION!
But at the same time, we don't like advertising our festivals to the wrong people (meaning people who may not be ready to deal with the impacts of psychedelically-minded environments that challenge and teach us about ourselves, or people who would bring malignant intentions to these contemporary gatherings of ancient human values).
You know how it is, there is a high price to be paid when something goes mainstream, especially anything music- and culture-related. Its original teachings, insights and potential gets watered down more and more to the lowest common denominator until we are left with remnants of a once great thriving subculture. Hollowed out for all the wrong reasons.
Money interests of careless intent eventually try the same tired old strategies in order to hijack any scene or subculture for their own gain and eventually a new market is made out of something that was never intended to be for sale - simply because it was too important for all those involved with their heart to be treated as a mere "commodity" within the system structure of the matrix. But since the millenia-old exploitation structures still exist and we as humanity are slow to wake up to our own greatness and power the historic extortion- and coercion-racket of soulful and spiritually significant practices and cultural environments continues...
Since my intuition has been outright plagueing me to share some of my experiences at these psychedelic gatherings with people on the search out there, and since Steem feels like a tribal gathering of its own - having little to no attention in the public realm and attracting some of the most caring and good-natured human beings I was ever privileged to meet online - I felt it was 'right' for me to share some glimpses into the psychedelic scene in a manner that would not violate anyone's privacy nor endanger the scene in any way.
And I am really glad to be able to say: I still feel really good about that choice, even if Steem should become a major social network in the years to come with lots more eyes on these stories.
I feel I have done my best to not only help psychology- and spirituality-enthusiasts on the search for something profound to consider some new ideas and angles about life that are seldomly - if ever - talked about in mainstream culture... but I have also seen it as a way to make sense of my experiences for myself - a diary if you will - that I can one day go back to and read up on, seeing my life path unfold and recognizing just how much this scene, the music, the experiences and the culture have saved my life from mundanity and futility. This scene helped me find myself, allowed me to find out who I am and what my mission in life really is. It gave me the support I needed to go through the tough times and it still is the main engine behind my love for life and humanity.
If you have read any of my #floor-lessons I am sure you will have felt that passion between the lines somewhere.
Be that as it may, for a while now I have watched psychedelics make somewhat of a public comeback. Not only has Cannabis been an ever-increasing phenomenon in Western awareness within the past decades, we arguably have more interest, media productions and discussions about psychedelics than ever before, online. It could be argued that psychedelic interest is on a major longterm bullrun, with no end in sight and a whole new generation of adults discovering other options to explore their own potential and to reject the matrix-controlled microcosms for their poison-peddling and ill intentions.
And this is precisely where the psy scene comes in.
To put it mildly - I feel it's under attack. Things in the scene have been changing a lot since I started being part of it in 2011, and since then I had the privilege of talking to the older generation of psychonauts who feel the same way, claiming that "the scene has been continuously going downhill since its heyday in the 90's".
I feel we have reached a crossroads so obvious and so profound that I feel called to help steer the scene back to its original values, philosophy and potential if I in any way can do so. Not only me of course - I have been meeting many people over these past years whose most pressing task and mission in life it is to help this thing we love - the scene, the music, the culture and the spirit of the psychedelic (trance) scene - to find back to its strength and emerge from the hijacking attempts of matrix interests stronger and wiser than ever.
It's too important for me to just give up and let it die without a fight, even if I hate to put it in those terms.
As I eluded to, bringing anything out into the open is a doubled-edged sword in our modern age. On the one hand it allows culture to thrive, people to consider new ideas and problems to be discussed in a respectful and insightful manner, projecting experiences, thoughts and insights of some into the imagination of others who have not yet experienced for themselves. On the other hand, making something public always opens the door for abuse, for the wrong kind of attention and for becoming even more of a target for unknown interests - whatever their nature is - to erode the scene and culture further, and what it means.
However... since these attacks and attempts on the spirit of the scene are in full swing already and since "the gang" will not wait for those who care about the scene to muster some kind of spiritual defense against the hijacking attempts I feel it is high time I did my part and started a project that I have been putting off for years now and that I have yet to see being launched by anyone else online. So I will have to be the one who starts it, wouldn't be the first time. And heeding those kinds of calls in the past have always turned out well so I trust that I must follow suit again this time and dare to try something new.
That project will be known as "PsyCultureRadio"
A place where these glaring issues and developments within the psy scene will be laid open, where all the topics relevant to the life on psy festivals will be discussed, where innovative and empathic music with spirit will be celebrated and provably detrimental sell-out developments of any kind will be shunned with style and humour, attemtping to provide better options for the way forward.
It is not meant to represent the scene, to speak for the scene or to ever replace the original authentic experience of being at a gathering. Rather it will be my best attempt at bringing the issues and state of the scene and its related subjects of interest back into human consciousness, to greatly widen the perception on what's what on the psyfloors of the world, and to - really - explore new areas of human consciousness that are merely discussed superficially most places online, even by those speakers and researchers I once revered for their take on the psychedelic subject and its connected (sub)cultures.
I don't mean to sound arrogant or presume to know what reality is, but nearly everything I see online on psychedelics is not going far enough anymore, it's a rehash of a rehash and I can slowly see it diminish in quality year by year - the level of thought involved, the intentions connected to many pieces of media featuring psychedelics, and the public discourse in general. And that feeling has been nagging me to no end for years now that I have reached a point - with everything else in my life transforming and taking on new shapes and dimensions - that this project will need to happen. This year. Not the next.
So much for the need for a new psychedelic culture media outlet. More on the scope of the project coming up in part 2.
