Right after the historical 1929 market crash, the US Congress created the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, to protect the economic growth of the US and protect the interest of US investor against unfair and fraudulent sales.
Since then, any company interested in raise funds publicly needs register itself with the SEC and disclose all important information needed by the public, so it can make an informed decision.
The SEC does not approve or disapprove any investment, but can use the law against any fraudulent firm.
Recently, New York based Satis Group LLC, released a study informing that 81% of the ICOs were considered scams and did not have the intention to fulfill their projects.
Then I ask you, why is the market going down?

O SEC não approva ou desaprova os investmentos, mas pode usar as leis contra empresas fraudulentas.

SEC has helped a lot in reducing the number. Maybe we would have been talking about 98+% without SEC lol
SEC just started reviewing some ICOs, but they cannot do anything formally yet. They are just distributing communications.
