Steemit Learning Challenge-S21W4; "Asthma"
Am glad to participate in this 4th week of season 21 learning challenge @ashkan thank you for sharing with us different ways of caring for our body and signs we should not outlook.
What's Asthma? Write in your own words after getting knowledge from the lesson post?
Asthma is a chronic condition that inflames and narrows the airways in the lungs. It is caused by inflammation and muscle tightening around the airways.
The main causes of asthma are;
Allergic: Some people's allergies can cause an asthma attack. Allergens include things like molds, pollens and pet dander.
Non-allergic: Outside factors can cause asthma to flare up. Exercise, stress, illness and weather may cause a flare.
Though symptoms of asthma are best diagnosed medically people with asthma usually experienced the following;
Cough:can occur at night, during exercise, can be chronic, dry, with phlegm, mild or severe
Respiratory: difficulty breathing, wheezing, breathing through the mouth, fast breathing, frequent respiratory infections, rapid breathing or shortness of breath at night
Also common: chest pressure, anxiety, early awakening, fast heart rate or throat irritation.
Types of asthma
• Allergic asthma; This common type of asthma is triggered by allergens,
• Occupational asthma; Occupational asthma is triggered by irritants in the workplace, such as dust, gases, fumes and industrial chemicals.
• Exercise-induced asthma; usually affects people within a few minutes of starting exercise and can last until 10–15 minutes after physical activity
How would you diagnose a asthma? Any clinical investigation or assessment tests?
Lung function tests: To confirm asthma, the doctor may have you take one or more breathing tests known as lung function tests which is the primary test.
Spirometry. This is the recommended test to confirm asthma. During this test, you breathe into a mouthpiece that's connected to a device, called a spirometer, or to a laptop. It measures the amount of air you're able to breathe in and out and its rate of flow, this is the best lung function test.
Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share images, gifs or videos while practising.
Chest Stretches
I placed my both arm on a corner wall allowing my shoulder blades meet then stretch and hold for about 30 seconds, this will help the heartbeat regulate and the chances of asthma attack might be limited.
Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise
I placed one hand over the stomach and the other on the upper chest, i Inhale through the nose making sure is just my stomach rising and not the upper chest ,
The exhalation was 2 to 3 times longer than the inhalation.
Pursed lip breathing exercise
I took a deep breathe in through my nose, then breathe out at least twice as slowly through pursed lips.Inhaling through your nose and breathing out through pursed lips can force more oxygen into the lungs.
Share your review after performing these exercises either on yourself, healthy individual or patient
When i was performing the exercise the first thing i noticed was the increase rate of heartbeat this will Strengthens the heart and lungs, making the body stronger and less susceptible to flare-ups.
Another was sweating yes sweating helps alot because it helps keep the body cold lowering the chances of exercise related asthma reason is because People who make less sweat, tears and saliva when exercising may have more breathing problems.
Am reaching out to @eliany @goodybest @dequeen to also take part in the contest thank you.
