Details on Qualcomm Snapdragon 1000 revealed, coming to these devices
Qualcomm every year launches a flagship mobile processor for smartphones and even for laptops. This year it launched the Snapdragon 845 and is rumoured to launch Snapdragon 500 later this year. But a report coming from Winfuture.de reveals details of a new processor that is the likely successor to Snapdragon 850, Qualcomm Snapdragon 1000.
The particular processor is rumoured to power Microsoft Windows 10 devices for ARM. It is said to compete with Intel’s Y and U series chipsets, which have 4.5W and 15W power envelope. In case of Snapdragon 1000, the processor is said to power tablets and Ultrabook laptops and use 6.5W power for the CPU itself. The total power it may draw is 12W.
Also reported via Ars Technica is that the processor has 16GB of LPDDR4X RAM and two 128GB UFS flash drives in test platform. Also included are 02.11ad gigabit Wi-Fi, gigabit LTE and a different power management controller.
It has been mentioned that the size of the processor is also large at 20×15mm, which is more than Snapdragon 850’s 12x12mm. The chipset is also said to be a socketed one in PCs instead of soldered. It is expected to make use of ARM’s Cortex-A76 architecture and might be built using TSMC’s 7nm manufacturing process.
Qualcomm earlier this month launched its Snapdragon 850 processor for ‘Always Connected PC’ at the Computex 2018 conference in Taiwan.
The Snapdragon 850 is built on 10nm process and comes with Kryo 385 CPU with 8 cores, and maximum clock speed of 2.95GHz. The chipset promises to offer 30% improvement in performance and 20% improvement in battery life. The processor also claims to offer 20% faster Gigabit LTE speeds (1.2Gbps) with X20 LTE modem compared to Snapdragon 835 chipset. It supports 4K video capture and Ultra HD Premium content playback and is expected to come in mobile PCs later this year.
