Truth be told: Keep your umbrella to yourself

in #qualitycontrol6 years ago (edited)

Welcome to part two of this exciting new series that contains true and real-life stories where rude, selfish, arrogant, oblivious and mean people get what they probably got coming to them for a long time.

I call it quality control.

Today's encounter: Oblivious behavior in the rain

I was on subway on my way home from work, as usual. It was raining heavily and almost all the seats in the train were taken, except one, where a woman in her early forties had put her purse.

I walked up to her, looked at her purse, then at her, and I asked "Excuse me, can I sit here?". She looked up and said "Of course" and removed her purse from the seat.

Under her purse, she had put her soaking wet umbrella directly on the seat (subways in Oslo have fabric seats). So when she removed her umbrella, the seat was obviously soaking wet as well.

I looked down at the wet seat, then at her and said something like

You know... When you put your wet umbrella on the seat, the seat will get wet as well, and then noone can sit there..

She said "Yeah.. I can see that. I'm sorry".

Note: She wasn't SO sorry or anything like that, just "sorry". Definitely not sorry enough to offer me her own dry seat.

I made sure she saw and heard my sigh, before I stepped away. I also made sure to stand in her field of view for the rest of the train ride.

Quality control complete

If you enjoyed reading this, feel free to check out Part one: That's a pretty mean thing to do, where I also provide some background information as to why I'm doing this.

Lastly, a question to those of you that has read part one. Do you think I should I include more of the background information/call to action in each post, or should I only link to it like I've done above?

Sort:

This is why I live in the country far far away from the city folks I loathe.
I have my own transportation. I have only ridden on a train or subway for fun. Rode a tram or two in an airport to get to another terminal.

I could never get used to being one of the cattle. Have you ever considered that you are just a Rich mans cow bringing the milk to him daily at your local job?

That is the reason why I have chosen to have my own companies. I have never asked for government handouts. I think we call all do just fine with community decisions. People don't need (ranchers) politicians to tell us how to spend the fruit of our labor.

I dont have to deal with many rude people in life. Only here on steemit and on the discord do I deal with the immature behavior of children that think they know everything.

Next time you ride the train in the rain carry a plastic bag in your pocket. Then you will have a seat even if it is wet. Can't count on cattle to know where to put their wet items.

Haha yes good idea. I shall bring a plastic bag next time.

More than once. Fortunately, I truly love the job I'm doing now, but I do have plans for my own business eventually.

Passive aggressive at its finest. At least you were smart enough to not sit down.

I think for the first couple, until more of a following comes around, keep the background info in (but maybe move it to the bottom). Either way is perfectly fine though.

nice series! Glad to see you posting again, too! Some people just have no consideration for others. It's annoying and I see it often too. Maybe I will give my own feedback.

I'm so sorry, I can't believe I missed your reply, and didn't even get the chance to vote on it!

Great to hear from you too! And thanks for the feedback! Yes they are the worst. I'm in a fight with the board where I live these days because of a person like this. They're very annoying to have to deal with

Hey no worries -- you still hooked me up with upvotes :) Which I appreciate so thanks! It sucks when you have to deal with that kinda person and there's nothing you can do about it. The electric company manager lady is like that around here. I can't stand even looking at her!
