Finished t-shirt quilt
Makeshift potholder technique in the beginning, but used log cabin method to finish. Happy @needleworkmonday everyone! 🌸
Each block was quilted before attaching. Used black cotton to even up all the blocks to same size and make it have a window frame look.
Quilting a huge blanket is super tedious on a home machine. Really need a long arm quilter to do that work or immense patience to do it by hand. 🧶
And this was just doing the binding. 😝
Glad it’s complete. And i can still add on to make it queen size.

This is fabulous, I love this idea.
It is my husbands birthday today, I used to get him fabulous thoughtful gifts, but we sort of fell into the Kmart T-shirt and socks gifting since we had kids. He expects a T-shirt he doesn't want, then I "upcycle" it into a throw cushion or tote. 😂
But this, I like this very much. Maybe I will get him a couple more T-shirts...
Thanks @girlbeforemirror upcycling is a great way to go. This was commissioned by a friend. There are folk online that do this all the time, but my buddy wanted to throw me some business. Quilts ate a lot of awkward work, like curtains. 🧶 Keep on upcycling!
I love your quilt @oceanmoon and I have been wanting to do this for a looong time. Collecting old tshirts. The only problem is that the old tshirts are sometimes too worn out :D. I like the black borders added which makes each tshirt piece a centerpiece.

I have two questions if I may : (a) what did you use for the backing, and (b) is your sewing machine industrial ? - it looks really sturdy.

I have the Singer CG250, it’s a commercial grade home sewer. It’s a great workhorse. 🌸
This is just FAB! What an awesome idea and place to put t-shirts! Were these shirts old ones that you just hung onto? So I see that you commented there is a shirt on the front and the back of the quilt. Did you fold them back to back and place the batting in between them? This is so interesting and I would love to hear how you placed them! It looks really awesome! I also love the black outlining you added!
These shirts are a friends accomplishments over the years, i was commissioned for the quilt. I cut all the shirts, used fusible web for the mesh fabrics and used batting or fleece blankets inside the sandwich, then quilted each block. It was fun to build thanks @crosheille 🌸

Amazing blanket!!! The dark background is perfect for showcasing all the different panels. I cannot imagine how much work this must have been.
And I have never heard of this straight arm quilter... is this a special sewing machine?
I totally forgot to fix that on my post! I meant a long arm machine, not straight. Long arm machines take up a lot of space so that the quilt sandwich is open width wise and the sewer can maneuver the stitches. Thanks for reminding me 😃 I really wanted to correct rhat bit! ohhhh I did not want to correct you, but my English (and my sewing knowledge) is not so evolved :-D I also never heard of a long arm machine. I have so much to learn regarding sewing.
@neumannsalva I was so glad you mentioned it, because it was one of those things that I thought of and then forgot about, I’m truly appreciative.
Not sure how clear this screenshot is, but this is what a pro quilter would use to “quilt” the quilt. A lot of people don’t recognize that quilting is not just the patchwork blanket. These machines cost thousands of dollars. That’s why i needed to find a way to have fun quilting. The last blanket I quilted was exhausting! 😃
Woooow I have never seen such a machine. Perhaps because quilting is not so well known here, or because I just beginn with my sewing adventure. Thank you for sharing the photo <3

Thanks @muscara it took about a year in my spare time. Ultimately i think the work was about 10-12 hours.
I took extra time to work out the technique. I love the framed look to really notice the memories. There are much easier ways to make a t-shirt quilt. Most of the peeps online don’t bother doing the quilting part. 🖼
