***English philosopher and physician, known as the "Father of Liberalism".***

>Wherever Law ends, Tyranny begins

...and wherever laws got too many pages, oligarchy begins I might add and if not oligarchy what happens is that laws protect the wealthiest and that's what we got in so many rich countries today, especially in America.

Anyway...

Here is a list of other great John Locke's quotes.

"Reading furnishes the mind only with materials of knowledge; it is thinking that makes what we read ours."

"All wealth is the product of labor."

"Parents wonder why the streams are bitter, when they themselves have poisoned the fountain."

"The discipline of desire is the background of character."

"All mankind... being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty or possessions."

"The most precious of all possessions is power over ourselves."

"It is one thing to show a man that he is in error, and another to put him in possession of truth."

"Logic is the anatomy of thought."

"There is frequently more to be learned from the unexpected questions of a child than the discourses of men."

"I have always thought the actions of men the best interpreters of their thoughts."

"What worries you, masters you."

"Education begins the gentleman, but reading, good company and reflection must finish him."

"Good and evil, reward and punishment, are the only motives to a rational creature: these are the spur and reins whereby all mankind are set on work, and guided."

Nice quotes. I have some of them in my collection. Will pick up the rest that I don't have. Thanks.

You are welcome

Good post. John Locke is one of the greatest philosophers in the Western pantheon. So much of what we do in the U.S. is based on his brilliant mind.

Right. Thank you
