My 12 Favourite Quotes for Life

in #quote6 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone!

Here are 12 of my favourite life quotes that I've gathered over the years. If possible, I'll try to include the sources if I can find them. I'll also include my brief thoughts on them just to share with everyone.

  • Life is too short for us to neglect or undervalue our own dreams. One day, we will wake up to realize our life is almost over and we have yet to fulfill our dreams because we were too afraid in pursuing our own dreams. No matter what, how we live our lives depends on how strong our convocations are and how brutally honest we are with ourselves.

  • I always felt it strange that people will always take holidays in running away from life but never thought in making life into a life-long holiday.

  • I love this quote because it teaches us to agree to disagree. Moreover, it teaches us to understand all view points. This means you can acknowledge another person, but not necessarily agree with them.

Quote 4:

  • This quote is strangely forgiving as it allows us to forgive not just ourselves but other people who have wronged us. Forgiveness doesn't mean you have to tell a person. It just means for us to forgive what has happened just for us to move on with our lives. Any minute used to contemplate about the past is a minute wasted in the present.

  • Have you ever seen how people treat the janitor, the homeless or even waiters? If you do, this quote comes to mind. A truly good person will realize each person is a human being and deserves the courtesy in being respected as a human being. Most people forget this. Let us always remember to be kind to another soul, no matter their backgrounds and origins.

  • The Chinese word for risk has the word opportunity in it. Behind every situation, there is always something bad or something good. The trick is in discovering and acting upon the opportunity. There's an analogy someone told me that brick walls (obstacles) are there just to test us to see how far we will go to climb over them to reach our dreams.

  • There is a story that before Alexander the Great died, he made three wishes.

“My first wish is to have my physician bring my coffin home alone. After a gasping for air, Alexander continued: “My second wish is scatter the gold, silver, and gems from my treasure-house along the path to the tomb when you ship my coffin to the grave.” After wrapping in a woolen blanket and resting for a while, he said: “My final wish it to put my hands outside the coffin.” People surrounding him all were very curious, but no one dare to ask the reason. Alexander’s most favored general kissed his hand and asked: “My Majesty, We will follow your instruction. But can you tell us why you want us to do it this way?” After taking a deep breath, Alexander said: “I want everyone to understand the three lessons I have learned. To let my physician carry my coffin alone is to let people realize that a physician cannot really cure people’s illness. Especially when they face death, the physicians are powerless. I hope people will learn to treasure their lives. My second wish is to tell people not to be like me in pursuing wealth. I spent my whole life pursuing wealth, but I was wasting my time most of the time. My third wish to let people understand that I came to this world in empty hands and I will leave this world also in empty hands.” he closed his eyes after finished talking and stopped breathing.

  • I never quite figured out this quote yet. From a literal meaning, yes it is true. From a metaphorical standpoint, I'm sure it means that we should recognize what truly matters in life. I think. Feel free to comment on this.

Quote 9:

  • This quote tells us that love is not about possession. It is about appreciation. Too many people in relationships try to control each other because they do not truly appreciate the individuality of their partners. We do so because of our insecurity and we never truly learned what it means to love another person as they truly are.

Quote 10:

  • From this quote, I learned that people who have experienced many things in life will be the first to offer help because they wouldn't want another person to suffer this situation as they did. Therefore, always treasure and appreciate the help or advice a person has given you. You'd never know what they have truly been through.

Quote 11:

  • Anyone can be optimistic when the situation is good. It takes a person with true grit to become optimistic when the situation is tough. That's the mark of real greatness.

  • Among the quotes I cherished the most, is this small panel of this comic strip from Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson. No matter how great of a person we are in stature, to quote Carl Sagan, "we are just a pale blue dot" in the tapestry of the vast universe. It makes us realize how small we truly are and makes us realize our life's problems are but ephemeral in the span of the cosmos. Staring at the stars infuses us with a sense of our significance that is deeply honest and humbling. With that comes wisdom and knowing what truly matters in our lives.
