Charlottesville Lesson: Take Down the Lincoln Memorial, Too.
As a former Charlottesville resident, I challenge those who hate "white nationalists" to dig even farther into the truth and tell the world the truth about Abraham Lincoln, who gave the perfect definition of "white supremacist" when he defined himself as one:
I have no purpose to introduce political and social equality between the white and black races . . . . I, as well as Judge Douglas, am in favor of the race to which I belong, having the superior position. I have never said anything to the contrary” (The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln, vol. III, p, 16).

Only by telling the truth about history and exposing the lies we've been told in the past can we begin to set things straight with our brothers and sisters.
There is one overriding "wrong" greater than all others, which is to place property rights above human rights. It was the original sin of Cain in the Bible, who took his brother's life in order to get his property.
The reason slavery is so abhorrent is that it makes the life of one person the property of another. This same horror -- in varying and lesser degrees -- seems to be the fundamental temptation of the human race. The lessons all around us seem to be that if I can turn your human energy -- your "life" -- into my property, then I'm a "success." Obullshit.
It's time to tell it like it is. Tearing down the Lincoln Memorial would be a powerful teaching that we are not going to stand being lied to; we are not going to swallow myths; we are going to own up to our wrongs and start to love one another as ourselves. Doing unto others as we would have them do unto us.
A wonderful explanation of the total failure of Honest Abe to live up to these ideals, exposing the lies we've been told about him can be found by clicking on the link above.
