The Negatives of Pokemon GO

in #rant8 years ago

Pokémon GO is a fantastic game, there's no doubt about it. It has captured the hearts of millions of people worldwide (as well as the free time). While there are some prevalent benefits to Pokémon GO, there are also negatives involved with the game.

Some pretty frustrating negatives.

1.) Server Issues
Everyone who played Pokémon GO knows about the dreaded server issues and the server crashes. There was such an influx of new users that the servers couldn't keep up with demand. This is a common issue with most triple-AAA games on launch day because of the amount of people joining at once, but it still causes a fair bit of frustration. A plethora of eager, ready-to-be Pokémon hunters downloaded the game ready to play, and were greeted with this unwanted message.

I apologize for any painful memories that image conjures up.

These issues are far less frequent now that the game has been out for a while and the amount of people downloading the game has decreased to a manageable level. Every once in a while though, an unlucky few has that message appear on their own phones.

2.) Constant freezing
The one that grinds my gears, really grinds my gears, is when the game freezes up. 99 percent of the time, the game freezes right before I catch a high-level Pokémon. I'm aware that just because the Pokémon gets sucked into the Pokéball, that doesn't mean it's captured. The ball shakes three times, which should mean that it's captured, but that's when the game freezes. Also I'm not talking about Pidgies and Rattatats, because those little mammals are a dime-a-dozen. I'm talking about Koffing, I'm talking about Horsea, I'm talking about Onix. I remember one time specifically when I almost caught a Squirtle. A SQUIRTLE. Right before I caught it the game "miraculously" managed to freeze, and I never saw the thing again.

Damn you Niantic.

3.) Users not paying attention to their environment
I know that Pokémon GO is one of the best games you've ever played. It's got you by the balls (metaphorically) and, hell, it has me by the balls too. You are so enthralled with this marvel of a game that you don't want to remove your eyes from the screen for a second. I know that feeling well. The only problem is, the people that don't look up from their phones at all while playing this game get themselves into quite a predicament.

By predicament, I mean lethal or nearly-lethal predicament.

Just the other week, A girl in my own town was going on her merry way playing Pokémon GO. Then she was hit by a car. All because she was too glued to look up and use the most basic common sense to not walk in the middle of the road while distracted.

That's just one examples. Accidents like these are happening on a broad scale. Even worse, some people are deciding to try and catch Pokémon WHILE THEY'RE DRIVING. I mean for shit sake, that Pikachu can wait to be caught until you're not in a 2,000 pound hulk of aluminum.

Remember this handy little message?:

Yeah, that wasn't put there just for the hell of it. It's there to take note of, to deter the exact thing that's happening right now.

Stay safe kids. You've gotta use your head to become the very best that no one ever was.
